da roleta: Despite all of the money spent by the Manchester clubs, Chelsea and even Arsenal this season, one year after Jurgen Klopp took over as Liverpool manager, it’s the Reds who are making splashes in the league this season.
da fezbet: Although it’s Manchester City who are top of the table, Liverpool are starting to look like genuine title contenders and the manager is starting to build a team, rather than relying on talented individuals.
As the season wears on, and if Liverpool can continue at the top of the league, that team spirit and togetherness might be the difference between success and failure.
But sometimes people mistake team players for limited players. And that’s not always the case. Liverpool may be chock-full of team players, but taking data from transfer website TransferMarkt.com, Liverpool’s players have quite a bit of value on their own!
Take a look through Liverpool’s top 10 most valuable players right here:
10. Emre Can £15.3m
Sometimes you have to be careful with the market value of footballers. Liverpool bought Can in 2014 for more than he was reportedly worth at the time, but two years later, Can’s value has surpassed the amount Liverpool paid for him.
The reason? He is maturing, of course. And that’s simply it, Can is young and will get better, making him more valuable – but at the moment, he is starting to show his worth to Liverpool.
9. Mamadou Sakho £15.3m
Despite falling out of favour with Jurgen Klopp this season, Mamadou Sakho is still clearly a very good defender, even if his attitude is leaving something to be desired.
Valued at £15.3m, Sakho is one of Liverpool’s most valuable players, but you get the feeling that if they sold him right now, few would be willing to splash out that sort of money.
8. Adam Lallana £16.15m
Adam Lallana had a fine Euro 2016, despite being in a disappointing England side, and this season he has continued his upward trend, looking like a viable central midfielder under Jurgen Klopp.
His value has declined somewhat since signing for Liverpool, but Lallana can put that right if he continues to exhibit the same form he’s shown since the start of the season.
7. Nathaniel Clyne £17.85m
The England full back just carries on getting better very quietly. Clyne doesn’t grab the headlines, but he does continually play well for his club.
And that is, presumably, why he’s so well thought of in the footballing world – valued at £17.85m, Clyne is one of Liverpool’s most valuable players.
6. Georginio Wijnaldum £18.7m
Signed from Newcastle this summer, Liverpool now have an energetic midfielder on their hands and one who fits right into the Jurgen Klopp mould.
TransferMarkt seem to think that Liverpool paid slightly more than Wijnaldum was worth in the summer window, but after only a few games, his value has already increased and if he continues to perform for Liverpool this season, it will rise even higher.
5. Daniel Sturridge £21.25m
Perhaps the only reason that Daniel Sturridge isn’t higher on this list is because of the fact that when you buy him, he’ll inevitably get injured.
Sturridge is undoubtedly a wonderful football player, but his injury history is certainly something you’d have to factor in before buying him – and that hits his market value.
4. Jordan Henderson £23.8m
Another player who fits the Jurgen Klopp style and who is also a steady performer, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is perhaps a surprise entry at number four given that he’s steady rather than spectacular.
But over the past few seasons, Henderson has proven himself capable of playing at the highest level and leading his team, even if he’s not the same type of captain as his predecessor. His market value reflects his value to his team.
3. Sadio Mane £25.5m
Sadio Mane’s market value is perhaps inflated slightly by the transfer fee that Liverpool paid for him.
It’s clear that Liverpool wouldn’t sell him for just £25.5m if a bid came in today, but TransferMarkt also thinks that Liverpool paid a high price for the 24 year old. Either way, Mane is an exciting player who Liverpool will feel is worth a lot more than his market value to their team.
2. Philippe Coutinho £29.75m
Is he Liverpool’s best player? He may well be one of their most important at any rate. Philippe Coutinho is capable of footballing magic at times, and over the past few seasons, he has proved time and again that he is a player who can play at the top of the sport.
His value to the club isnt in doubt, and that’s reflected in his transfer market value.
1. Roberto Firmino £29.75m
Liverpool’s number one slot is actually shared by both Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, but the transfer market does tend to value attackers more highly than midfielders, which is what Coutinho would be classed as. Enough, perhaps, for TransferMarkt to list Firmino as the number one by default.
That doesn’t really matter to us, though, because both have the same value, and we can accept that: Firmino’s value to Liverpool as a team is probably just as high. His work rate, his ability to press defenders and his flair when he does have the ball at his feet make him the perfect Jurgen Klopp striker.
