da premier bet: 16 games have been played in the English top flight, and we are coming down to the half-way point of the campaign and this means a flurry of Premier League games during the festive December period.
da mrbet: While the other leagues around Europe are having their usual winter break, for some reason the FA love to play their games during the holidays. The players may be disappointed, but the fans certainly aren’t.
And with this comes the usual panicking of Fantasy Premier League decisions one has to make before each gameweek, so a good start to the festive December schedule will be extremely vital in your rise or fall in your respective mini leagues.
But probably the biggest decision of all is the player captaincy, as doubling your points on one player could be a big difference between you finishing the first half of the season well, or fighting for relegation like Chelsea.
Here are FIVE Fantasy Premier League Captain Choices ahead of Gameweek 17.
Romelu Lukaku
Last week Romelu Lukaku (9.2) was our first pick for the captaincy role, and he didn’t disappoint scoring the only goal and collecting all three bonus points in Everton’s 1-1 draw against Norwich last weekend.
And we are backing the Belgium international to add to his six-game goalscoring streak when they host league leaders Leicester City this weekend, as although the Foxes are in red-hot form, they’ve only kept three clean sheets the entire campaign and star Leicester centre-back Robert Huth is also suspended for the fixture.
Riyad Mahrez
Meanwhile, Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez (6.9) has been arguably been the best player in the English top flight this season, scoring an incredible 11 goals and supplying seven assists thus far.
And last week against Chelsea, the Algerian scored and assisted another in a 2-1 victory, rewarding those brave enough to captain him against the champions.
Everton are up next, but like the Foxes themselves, the Toffees have found it difficult to keep it tight at the back, with only one clean sheet in their last ten games.
Jamie Vardy
Jamie Vardy (7.6) is the other Leicester City player that can be considered the Premier League’s best this term, with the Englishman already scoring 15 goals in just 17 league games thus far.
Even when he didn’t score, he supplied an assist in the Foxes’ 3-0 win over Swansea City, making him the most consistent performer in the side.
And as mentioned earlier, Everton don’t keep many clean sheets, meaning Vardy will have amble opportunity to find the back of the net this weekend.
Olivier Giroud
Another striker that is in red-hot form is Arsenal star Olivier Giroud (9.0), as the Frenchman not only scored a hattrick to take Arsenal into the next stages of the Champions League, but has been extremely consistent in the English top flight with nine goals despite his limited playing time earlier in the season.
Manchester City are up next at the Emirates, but you wouldn’t back against Giroud scoring past the Citizens after he did so at the Etihad last season as well as in the Community Shield in the summer of 2014.
A bit of a punt, but could very well pay-off against a City side that have conceded eight goals in their last four games.
Georginio Wijnaldum
A Newcastle United player as captain? Why not.
Georginio Wijnaldum (7.0) has undoubtedly been one of the best players for Newcastle this term, scoring seven goals and supplying three assists in his maiden season.
And the Magpies seemed to have turned the corner lately, beating Liverpool and Tottenham in their last two games with Wijnaldum playing a major part against the Reds with a goal and an assist.
Bottom side Aston Villa are up next at St. James’ Park and if the Magpies can continue their great form, Wijnaldum is expected to be amongst the points.
