da betsson: What a week of Champions League football we’ve just had, with Manchester City’s trip to Celtic the pick of the games.
da betsul: In a tie that many felt would be one-sided, particularly after the 7-0 drubbing Barcelona handed out against the Bhoys, a six-goal thriller was produced as the two sides went hammer and tongs at each other in a 3-3 draw.
The praise was sent Celtic’s way for the way they played and hassled Man City all evening. The Citizens weren’t given long to settle into their rhythm and they came out of the traps flying with Moussa Dembele leading the charge.
It was a game that suggested Man City can be got at, and that’s where Spurs come in.
The two sides face off in the Premier League in a very appealing looking tie on Sunday and Mauricio Pochettino will have seen the tapes of this week’s game and made a plan. What that plan will be remains to be seen, but we think it should consist of these FIVE things…
Start quickly
From kick-off in both halves, Man City were caught napping by the Glasgow club as they scored within minutes of the whistles. Spurs, especially as it is at home, need to get at City from the off and not allow them to settle into the game. If they can get an early goal, like Celtic did, then they could well be on to a winner on Sunday.
Press high
This should be fairly straight-forward for Spurs as they are already very good at this. Mauricio Pochettino likes his teams to literally defend from the front, so expect Vincent Janssen and Heung-min Son to rack up the miles in this game. If Spurs can stop Claudio Bravo from playing out from the back then they will have the upper hand and should be able to put City under pressure.
Be brave
Spurs need to be bold in their play. Celtic did not care about what had gone on before in the tournament, the fact Man City had won ten games straight or the apparent quality deficiencies they had – they instead played the game on their terms. Spurs need to make sure they do that as well.
Switch on after scoring
Celtic found that after scoring, Man City were right on top of them looking to respond quickly, and so Spurs need to switch on straight away if they get in front. They should be able to with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris at the back, but you cannot allow for a moment’s peace with Sergio Aguero around. They need to be on it for the full 90 minutes.
Attack quickly if they concede
What Celtic did do brilliantly themselves, though, was instantly get back at Man City when they scored. There were a number of times, with a bit more quality, that the Bhoys could have got straight back in front when City had pegged them back, and you’d argue that Spurs have that quality to do so.
Vincent Janssen hasn’t set the world on fire just yet, but what better time to do it than against the league’s form side?
