Chelsea will now have to spend the summer considering top-quality alternatives and two prominent names have been linked since Lukaku’s move to Old Trafford – Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata (Sky in Italy via Sky Sports), who netted 15 times in La Liga last season, and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is also wanted by Liverpool (The Sun).
Gabon international Aubameyang bagged 40 goals across all competitions last season but already 28 years of age, the 20-cap Spaniard perhaps represents a better long-term addition – even if he’s struggled to match the Dortmund star’s output over the last few years.
