According to reliable West Ham United club insider ExWHUemployee on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast (March 4, 23:03pm), the recent transfer link to Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo is “very lazy journalism”.
What did he say?
Well, Ecuadorian outlet Ecuagol reported at the start of this week that the Irons, along with Premier League rivals Everton and Newcastle United were keen on the former Manchester City man, currently plying his trade in Italy.
However, ExWHUemployee’s update suggests the South American media source is wrong on this occasion.
He told the West Ham Way podcast (1:25:58): “There’s been links to Felipe Caicedo, who is a Colombian striker who plays in Italy. We’ve been linked with him so many times before. I think it’s very lazy journalism.
“First of all, he’s 31. Second of all we don’t know what division we’re going to be in. Third of all, the link was Pellegrini. That links clearly not there anymore. I don’t think that link’s worth talking about at this point.”
Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….
A strange signing
There’s no doubt that Caicedo would have to be seen as a bit of a strange signing for West Ham.
As Ex mentions, the fact he is 31 years of age and turns 32 in September means he would hardly be a long-term addition for the east London outfit, and it would certainly be a turn away from their recent transfer business.

Indeed, the additions of the likes of Pablo Fornals, Sebastien Haller and Jarrod Bowen has seen them bring in players more in their early 20s with a ceiling to improve than being 10 years older that that, and they would probably be wise to stick with that strategy.
The South American centre-forward may have a decent return of eight goals in 21 Serie A fixtures this term, but he only has 23 in 100 outings in total for Lazio.
That isn’t good enough for West Ham, and should be seen as a positive for them and the supporters that ExWHUemployee has poured cold water on these claims.
In other West Ham news, ExWHUemployee has also revealed that the club has a “concern” about one £24m player…
